BIO: Jack Madgen was born in Williamstown (SA) and began playing basketball as a junior with the Eastern Hills basketball program. He also played football for Barossa District in 2010 in the Barossa Light & Gawler Football Association. He jointly won the 2010 Senior Colt Footballer of the Year.

FAMILY: Jack’s brother, Ben Madgen also played 167 games in the NBL.

COLLEGE

Madgen played college basketball at Delta State University during the 2012–13 season, where he competed from 2012–13 to 2015–16 and played college basketball for Delta State University in Mississippi.

In 2012–13 as a freshman, he played 27 games with 24 starts and logged 929 minutes (34.4 minutes per game), scoring 274 points (10.1 points per game) while shooting 94-for-233 from the field (40.3%), 38-for-107 on three-pointers (35.5%), and 48-for-65 at the free-throw line (73.8%).

Across that 2012–13 season, Madgen collected 65 rebounds (2.4 per game) with 8 offensive rebounds and 57 defensive rebounds, added 99 assists, 16 steals, and 3 blocks, and his listed single-game highs included 18 points vs Concordia College (11/27/2012), seven assists vs West Alabama (01/17/2013), and seven rebounds at Alabama Huntsville (01/12/2013), while also being named to the GSC Winter Academic Honor Roll.

In 2013–14 as a sophomore, he played 33 games with 32 starts and helped Delta State finish 26–7, win the Gulf South Conference regular-season title, and reach the NCAA Division II South Region title game after advancing to the Sweet 16.

Madgen scored 330 points in 2013–14 (10.0 points per game) while shooting 104-for-234 from the field (44.4%), leading Delta State with 57 made three-pointers, and he went 65-for-78 at the free-throw line (83.3%), alongside 73 rebounds (2.2 per game) and 79 assists (2.4 per game), with 14 double-figure scoring games and a 20-point performance vs Union (01/18/2014).

During the 2014 NCAA Division II tournament, he set Delta State NCAA Tournament single-game records with 32 points, seven made three-pointers, and 10 three-point attempts in an 82–77 overtime win over Barry on 03/15/2014, and he was later recognised with both the GSC Winter All-Academic Award and GSC Winter Academic Honor Roll, as well as selection to the NABC Honor Court and the GSC All-Academic Team for the season.

In 2014–15 as a junior, Madgen played 26 games with 19 starts and totaled 263 points (10.1 points per game) while shooting 87-for-195 from the field (44.6%), 44-for-95 from three-point range (46.3%), and 45-for-56 at the line (80.4%).

Across that 2014–15 season, he logged 730 minutes (28.1 minutes per game), recorded 56 total rebounds (2.2 per game), 43 assists, 30 turnovers, 16 steals, and 3 blocks, and he passed the 800-point mark for his Delta State career vs Shorter on 01/12/2015, while also being named to the NABC Honor Court for the year.

In 2015–16 as a senior, he started all 30 games and averaged 9.9 points per game, finishing with 296 points on 84-for-234 shooting (35.9%), including 46-for-130 from three-point range (35.4%), plus 82-for-101 on free throws (81.2%).

In that final season, Madgen added 114 rebounds (3.8 per game), 60 assists, 90 turnovers, 36 steals, and 3 blocks in 917 minutes (30.6 minutes per game), had season highs of eight rebounds and nine assists vs Johnson (11/21/2015), and led Delta State in scoring with 20 points against both Johnson (11/21/2015) and North Alabama (03/01/2016).

During 2015–16 he eclipsed 1,000 career points vs Alabama Huntsville (01/04/2016), was named Preseason All-GSC, and his Delta State career concluded with him ranked third in school history in three-pointers made (185) and three-point attempts (467).
