COLLEGE

Charles Carmouche’s NCAA career spanned three Division I programs, matching the year-by-year path noted as New Orleans (2009–2010), Memphis (2011–12), and LSU (2013), with his actual on-court seasons beginning at the University of New Orleans before transferring to Memphis and then finishing at LSU as a graduate transfer.

At the University of New Orleans, Carmouche broke into the rotation immediately in 2008-09, playing 24 games with 15 starts and averaging 3.5 points per game, including his first collegiate start on Nov. 26 at Colorado State (6 points), a season-high 34 minutes in a Jan. 1 win over Denver, and a season-high 9 points in a Feb. 22 loss at Louisiana-Lafayette.

He took on a much larger role for the Privateers in 2009-10, starting 28 games and leading the team in minutes played (972 total, 33.5 per game) while ranking second on the team in scoring at 12.6 points per game and leading the roster in rebounds at 4.8 per game from the guard spot, along with 60 assists and a team-high 42 steals; his shooting line that season was 39.7% from the field, 35.2% from three, and 61.3% at the free-throw line, and his notable road performances included 20 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 assists in 36 minutes at Georgia to open the campaign, 16 points and 8 rebounds at NC State, and a career-high 23 points at Western Kentucky.

On May 5, 2010, Memphis announced Carmouche’s transfer from New Orleans, with immediate eligibility granted because New Orleans was moving from Division I to Division III athletics for the 2010-11 academic year, and he entered Memphis as a rising junior with two years of eligibility remaining.

In 2010-11 at Memphis, Carmouche played 32 games and made 28 starts, logging 791 minutes (fourth-most on the team) while averaging 7.4 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.7 assists, reaching double figures in 12 games and finishing among Conference USA’s steals leaders (14th); in the postseason he started all four games and averaged 8.8 points and 3.0 rebounds, highlighted by a season-high 19 points in the Conference USA tournament semifinal win over East Carolina on 6-for-7 shooting (3-for-4 from three, 4-for-4 FT) while adding 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals, and he later posted 6 points and 3 rebounds in Memphis’ NCAA tournament second-round game against Arizona.

His 2011-12 Memphis season was cut short, as he appeared in seven games with four starts and averaged 6.3 points and 2.6 rebounds with 13 assists before missing the remainder of the year due to severe tendonitis in both knees, which led to an NCAA-approved redshirt season.

Carmouche then used the NCAA graduation-transfer rule to play his final college season at LSU in 2012-13, appearing in 30 games with 23 starts and averaging 26.7 minutes, 10.7 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game while posting 107 assists against 53 turnovers; he made 49 three-pointers at a 37.1% clip, scored in double figures 13 times, and produced five 20-point games, including a noted four-game stretch of 20-point outings that featured a 20-point, 11-rebound performance in a triple-overtime win over Alabama on Feb. 23 (54 minutes played) and a season-best 26 points against Arkansas on Feb. 27 on 9-of-11 shooting with three made threes in 35 minutes, along with 21-point games against Mississippi State (Feb. 16) and at Missouri (Mar. 2) that both included five made three-pointers, and a 20-point outing at Texas A&M on Mar. 6.
